Arteta urged to give Auba another chance as ‘he’s that good’

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should be given another chance at the club.

The Gabonese striker hasn’t featured for the Gunners since the 2-1 defeat to Everton in early December with a number of disciplinary issues seeing his fall out of favour with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Aubameyang has been forced to train away from the first team and has been left out of the club’s training camp in Dubai this week as reports of a potential move continue to circulate.

Saudi sides Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are thought to be interested in the forward as are PSG, AC Milan and Marseille, among others.

However, former Arsenal man Parlour is hoping he gets another chance under Arteta.

Speaking to talkSPORT, when asked if Arsenal needed Aubameyang, Parlour replied: “Of course they need him.

“But you’ve also got to show your dominance as a manager and say you can’t be doing stuff – especially when you have a young team.

“As a captain you’ve got to set a good example, which is very important.

“I’d look up to Tony Adams back in the day and he set the example – and not by going to the pub by the way – but by being on time and making sure when you wear that shirt you play for the team.

“Stuff like that you learn as you go along.

“But the young players will look at that and see he’s turning up late and not doing this and will be thinking; ‘Can we do that as well?’

“It’s not a good look for Arsenal Football Club.

“Arteta’s come down strong on him and now it’s all about the reaction, for me. I’d give him another chance because he’s that good and can score you goals.”

Arsenal have struggled for goals in recent weeks, failing to score in their last four games in all competitions.

The absence of Aubameyang leaves Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the only forward options available for Arteta and both don’t look likely to stay with the club long-term.

Lacazette is out of contract in the summer and doesn’t appear to be any closer to agreeing a new deal with the club whilst Nketiah has been linked with a move away for more regular game time for the last few windows.
