Chelsea have reportedly reached a ‘full agreement’ to sign teenage striker David Datro Fofana from Norwegian side Molde for a fee of around €10m.

The Ivory Coast international has spent the last couple of years playing at Molde.

The 19-year-old played 26 times during the 2021 campaign but he has kicked on this season in the Eliteserien.

Fofana has grabbed 15 goals and five assists in the league in 24 outings and this form is about to him a move elsewhere.

Chelsea are looking to the future under new co-owner Todd Boehly as they signed Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina in the summer.

The two teenagers are set to be joined by Fofana in the coming weeks. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea are ‘on the verge of signing’ him.

It is claimed that a ‘full agreement’ is in place for Chelsea to sign Fofana from Molde.

Fofana is currently discussing personal terms with Chelsea but there are not expecting to be any issues and the deal ‘will be signed’ for around €10m.

Chelsea spent over £240m in the summer as they brought in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.

The Blues are not stopping there though as they are also plotting deals for RB Leipzig duo Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku.

This is needed as Graham Potter’s side are currently eighth in the Premier League. They are five points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United.

Chelsea have changed manager once this term with Potter replacing Thomas Tuchel.

They are also having difficulties up front with them only scoring 17 goals in 14 Premier League games. This is lower than any side currently in the top ten.

Their situation has been made more complicated as Armando Broja is now out of action for several months as he has suffered a knee injury.

Former defender William Gallas thinks Boehly “would have failed” if Chelsea fail to finish in the top four.

“Of course! Of course, they’ve been struggling for goals. Chelsea will need a striker,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“I think getting into the top four will be very difficult for them, even if they went out and signed a forward. It will be very hard for Chelsea to finish in the top four.

“If Chelsea don’t finish in the top four, Todd Boehly would have failed. There can be no excuse for a club like Chelsea to finish outside of the top four.

“We are always very quick to judge players on their performance and it should be the same for the owner.

“He arrived and spent a lot of money, but if he doesn’t qualify for the top four he would have failed.

Gallas added: “Chelsea have a lot of problems. There are so many problems at Chelsea. They really need to solve their problems.”
