Chelsea risk £35m loss on Champions League hero with Bayern ‘watching’ his situation
Chelsea could make a €40million loss on Kai Havertz with Bayern Munich reportedly looking to sign the German international forward.
Havertz joined the Blues for €80m in 2020 and has scored 29 goals in 118 appearances for the London club.
The 23-year-old joined as an attacking midfielder who predominantly operated on the right flank, however, he has become more of a No. 9 at Stamford Bridge.
His time in the Premier League has been bitterly disappointing, with his Champions League-winning goal saving him from being regarded as an absolutely horrendous signing.
Havertz’s record for Germany is pretty good having scored 12 goals in 33 caps for his country.
There has been an influx of new players at Chelsea since Todd Boehly bought the club last summer.
The Blues have brought in a number of attackers, although none appear to be out-and-out strikers, which they clearly need.
Havertz is currently ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Broja – who is out until next season – in the pecking order under Graham Potter.
Speaking on TikTok, Plettenberg says the 23-year-old was “discussed” by the German champions last summer.
Bayern are “watching” the forward’s situation at Stamford Bridge with Boehly perhaps open to selling in order to balance the books.
It is said he may cost between €40m-€60m (£35m-£52.5m).
It is “too early at the moment” to tell, but Plettenberg does believe “something can happen in the summer”.
Havertz has six goals this season and is under contract until 2025; a contract that is apparently worth £310,000 per week.
There is also interest from Paris Saint-Germain, according to French outlet Media Foot (via Sport Witness).
The French champions also want Aubameyang, but Havertz has ‘convinced some leaders’ in Paris.
PSG apparently like his ‘versatility, his speed and technical qualities, as well as his potential’, making him a ‘very interesting’ proposition.
As mentioned prior, Havertz’s Chelsea career has somewhat been saved by the goal he scored in the Champions League final.
The Blues have spent a lot of money on a lot of mediocre players over the years.
Despite the poor business, Havertz ranks quite highly in the club’s most recent buys.
He is helped by the fact there are big-money signings like Kepa Arrizabalaga and Romelu Lukaku in there.
