Chelsea star blasted for ‘seeing off two managers’ as pundit highlights ‘big worry’ for Graham Potter
The “body language” of some Chelsea players should be a “big worry” for Graham Potter amid their ongoing poor form, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
The pressure is continuing to grow on Potter. They have only won two of their last 15 games across all competitions dating back to the start of November.
This run of form includes three straight defeats against Borussia Dortmund, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
These results leave them tenth in the Premier League. They are 14 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
Potter has been tasked with overseeing a major rebuild at Chelsea. Since the club’s takeover before this season, around £600m has been spent on new signings.
Most of this investment has gone into recruiting young players so they are seemingly not expecting results right away. But Chelsea’s dire form and performances could force co-owner Todd Boehly into drastic action that may result in Potter being sacked.
Ex-Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor thinks new signing Enzo Fernandez is “fed up with his teammates” as Chelsea’s squad “lack confidence and chemistry”.
The pundit also feels that Kai Havertz has “seen two managers off” and he is “not doing anything” to help Potter.
“The big worry for me when I watch Chelsea, and especially against Spurs at the weekend, was the body language of some of the players,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
“Even Enzo Fernandez has been outstanding for Chelsea, but even he looked a bit fed up with his teammates and the lack of connection to between them.
“[Raheem] Sterling is making runs and nobody is finding him, players are trying to play one-twos and they are not used to playing with each other.
“I think he [Graham Potter] is under pressure, but we do not know what the owner wants. Give him until the end of the season, he gets a good pre-season, and gets rid of the deadwood, the players are not good enough, then he can work with the players in pre-season.
“Then after ten games in the season, if Chelsea are not up there fighting for the title, then you get rid of him.
“These players have a lack of confidence and chemistry between them.
“Look at [Kai] Havertz, he saw two managers off, he is not doing anything. He is not a number nine or ten, he is not holding the ball up, or even scoring goals.
“[Ruben] Loftus-Cheek has not performed for ages, so some of these players need to get their finger out, and put in some performances, and not just blame the manager for everything.”
The Blues paid an initial fee of around £62m to sign Havertz during Frank Lampard’s time as manager.
The Germany international has been used as a makeshift striker for much of this season with Chelsea lacking options in that area of the pitch.
Chelsea have only managed to score 23 goals in 24 Premier League games this term and Havertz is without a goal in five league games.
