Liverpool duo join Leeds winger in Premier League weekend’s worst XI

Ruben Neves is partnered in midfield by a Liverpool star about whom concerns are being raised. And if Jack Harrison hoped to prove Jesse Marsch wrong… he didn’t.

Here is the weekend’s worst Premier League XI, according to WhoScored ratings…

 

GK: Jose Sa – 5.18
It wasn’t a great weekend for Premier League keepers, with Hugo Lloris, Illan Meslier, Robert Sanchez and David De Gea all recording sub-six scores. Sa’s was the lowest, which is hardly surprising when you concede four goals from five shots at home to bottom-of-the-table opposition. He wasn’t directly responsible for any of them, but Harvey Barnes’ strike pretty much dissected the Wolves stopper.

 

RB: Joel Ward – 5.56
Patrick Vieira was scathing of his Palace side at Everton, admitting they deserved nothing at Everton. At right-back, Ward was outnumbered for the hosts’ second goal but he let Dwight McNeil skip past him too easily before the winger netted the Toffees’ third.

 

CB: Adam Webster – 5.52
The Brighton centre-back is discredited with an error that led to a goal, which is one way to describe being bulldozered by Erling Haaland ahead of City’s opener at the Etihad. After that, he recovered to make two blocks, two tackles and two interceptions while winning all three of his duels.

 

CB: Lewis Dunk – 5.49
Dunk joins Webster in an all-Brighton centre-back partnership after the Seagulls skipper gave away a cheap penalty for a foul on Bernardo Silva. Which is perhaps a little harsh since Brighton restricted the champions to their fewest number of shots in any Premier League game this season, while City also recorded their first deficit in possession of the campaign.

 

LB: Hugo Bueno – 5.80
The 20-year-old is perhaps not the first Wolves name you might have expected to see in the back four since their centre-backs had shockers. But Max Kilman earned 0.01 more than Bueno, who gave Leicester the ball 13 times.

 

RW: Jack Harrison – 5.87
The Leeds winger was benched at Leicester in midweek and struggled to prove Jesse Marsch wrong in an ineffective performance against Fulham. Harrison lost possession 23 (twenty-three) times and won only three of 14 duels while being dribbled past four times.

 

CM: Fabinho – 5.97
Questions are starting to be asked of Fabinho after another ineffective performance in Liverpool’s midfield at Forest. The Brazilian lost possession 12 times while winning only one of his four duels. He was dribbled past as often as he won a tackle.

 

CM: Ruben Neves – 5.87
If Neves is hoping to catch the eye this season before a big move next summer, he’s not succeeding. The Portugal midfielder was narrowly off target with a second-half free-kick, but Wolves’ engine room was pillaged by the Foxes, with Neves losing five of his nine duels while losing possession 14 times.

 

LW: Fabio Carvalho – 5.93
The 20-year-old was just another of Liverpool’s strugglers at Forest. Carvalho saw a great first-half opportunity saved when he shot meekly at Dean Henderson – admittedly after a sublime first touch – but Jurgen Klopp hooked the attacker just after the hour having watched him fail to hit the target on three other occasions, lose three-quarters of his 12 duels and give Forest possession 11 times.

CF: Odsonne Edouard – 5.85
Edouard was a peripheral figure for Palace at Everton, managing only 27 touches from which he lost possession a dozen times. The biggest danger he posed to Jordan Pickford was a single blocked shot, while he lost three-quarters of his eight duels during an afternoon split between the pockets of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady.

 

CF: Bryan Mbeumo – 5.87
“Shambles, to be honest. Shambles… Embarrassing performance from the boys,” said Ivan Toney after Brentford’s 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa. His strike partner was hooked on the hour, but he wasn’t the worst among the Bees. Zanka (5.55), Kristoffer Ajer (5.56) and Mads Roerslev (5.66) all scored lower but were spared inclusion in this XI.
