Kane ‘has to leave’ Spurs to avoid career ‘regret’ and to find out ‘how it feels to win a title’
Harry Kane will “regret it” if he doesn’t leave Tottenham this summer, according to William Gallas.
Kane is out of contract in 15 months and is attracting interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old recently became Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer, surpassing the great Jimmy Greaves.
He is a Spurs legend and everyone associated with the club is desperate for him to snub interest from elsewhere by signing a new deal.
It has been a very difficult campaign at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but all hope is not lost as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League.
However, they will finish the season without a trophy yet again, meaning their long wait for a piece of silverware will go on.
They last won a trophy in 2008, meaning Kane hasn’t won anything in his career despite his incredible performances for his club and England.
A move to Bayern would pretty much guarantee a first career trophy while signing for United gives him a strong chance of doing so, and he would be able to surpass Alan Shearer as Premier League all-time leading goalscorer.
This summer transfer window will be the biggest of Kane’s career, two years on from a failed move to Premier League champions Manchester City.
United need a No. 9 and appear to be willing to invest in a player who will turn 30 in July. This move makes sense for every single party if Kane makes it clear he will not sign a new Spurs contract.
Ahead of his huge decision, former Spurs defender Gallas has urged Kane to leave the club.
The Frenchman believes the England captain will “regret it” if he stays as he risks retiring with no trophies to his name.
“For me he has to leave,” two-time Premier League champion Gallas told Genting Casino. “I feel it he doesn’t leave, he will regret it. I’ve said this before.
“I don’t want Harry to be like some of the players who have had the quality to lift the Premier League trophy but have failed to do it.
“At the end, when you stop playing, the only thing that you can see are your trophies.
“Okay, he has individual records. Okay, he can become the top scorer in the history of the Premier League, but where are the trophies?
“He doesn’t have that feeling. He doesn’t know what it feels like to lift the title, that’s why he has to leave as I believe Daniel Levy can’t give him the players alongside him, to take Tottenham to the next level where they will win it. That is a problem.”
Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League but are in danger of falling out of the Champions League places.
Newcastle United are currently two points behind the north Londoners but crucially have two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Brighton are in terrific form and could surprise everyone by qualifying for the Champions League and you cannot yet rule out Liverpool, despite their poor form this term.
Cristian Stellini will be in the Spurs dugout until the end of the season following the sacking of Antonio Conte.
The Italian’s first match in charge is against Everton next Monday before a crucial home clash against Brighton.
