Liverpool join Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs in race for £50m star as Chelsea set for windfall

Liverpool have joined what is now a four-way Big Six race for Marc Guehi, with Crystal Palace reportedly open to his sale this summer.

Guehi joined the Eagles from Chelsea for around £18million in the summer of 2021 having impressed on loan at Swansea City.

The 22-year-old has won three England caps having moved from the Blues and has drawn quite the list of admiring clubs after a season in which he’s captained Palace for the majority.

Tottenham were the first reported side interested as they look to add more homegrown players to their squad.

They were quickly followed by Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta keen to add more strength in depth at centre-back after the injury to William Saliba derailed their title challenge.

Manchester United then entered the fray with the supposedly imminent arrival of Kim Min-jae not putting them off, with Victor Lindelof potentially following Harry Maguire out of Old Trafford.

And now, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have entered the race.

The big rebuild at Anfield this summer is said to be focused on their midfield, with Alexis Mac Allister expected to be the first of three arrivals.

But with Joe Gomez reportedly keen on an exit, Joel Matip soon to turn 32 and Virgil van Dijk no longer the player he was, Jurgen Klopp is said to be keen on adding at least one new centre-back to his squad.

They will reportedly demand a new club-record fee of £50m, eclipsing the £45m United paid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2019.

Chelsea, who have first refusal on Guehi, will receive 20 per cent of any transfer fee due to the sell-on clause included in his deal to move to Palace.

Meanwhile, reports suggesting Michael Olise could also be on his way out of Palace are thought to be wide of the mark, as the 21-year-old is ‘happy’ and ‘won’t force a departure’ this summer.
