Man United need to start closing games out – Yorke

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes the club’s biggest problem this season is their failure to “get the job done”.

The Red Devils looked fairly comfortable for large periods of the match against Everton on Sunday with the Toffees playing with a direct style that United were finding easy to deal with.

However, Marouane Fellaini conceded a penalty late on with a clumsy challenge and Leighton Baines took advantage to steal a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

And Yorke thinks Jose Mourinho’s side’s inability to finish off opponents or hold out for valuable victories is the main reason why United find themselves so far off the pace.

“They can’t seem to get the job done at the moment,” Yorke told talkSPORT.

“They are playing reasonably well and got some good results in the EFL Cup.

“They just can’t seem to close games out and that is their problem this season.

“It’s very unusual for Man United [to concede late goals] because over the years we have been able to close games out.

“It has cost us this season and is something we need to improve on.”
