Man Utd could sell Sancho

According to reports, Jadon Sancho’s representatives have been ‘in contact’ with Borussia Dortmund but he needs to lower his wage demands to leave Man Utd.

The Englishman was one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Bundesliga during his time at Dortmund. He grabbed 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 outings for the German outfit across all competitions.

Sancho joined Man Utd for around £73m in 2021 and he has struggled over the past couple of seasons. He has only started 17 times in the Premier League this term and he’s been involved in seven goals.

Erik ten Hag is expected to overhaul his squad this summer and recent reports have indicated that United are considering letting Sancho leave.

German journalist Christian Falk is reporting that Sancho ‘is still worth in the region of €55m’ and this fee is ‘too expensive’ for Dortmund, who would only be able to sign him on loan.

‘Although there haven’t yet been any direct talks with Jadon Sancho (114 goals in 137 BVB games) about a summer transfer, Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl is always in contact with his advisors from the Project Elite Group,’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.

‘One thing is clear: there will definitely not be a buyback for the time being. Sancho (under contract at Man United until 2026) is still worth in the region of €55m and that would be too expensive for BVB.

‘Therefore only a loan would be conceivable at this point, but to do this Sancho would have to cut his €21m yearly salary in half. Dortmund also wouldn’t pay the €14m expected for a year’s loan, though a maximum of €10m could be considered.’

Ex-Red Devils star Louis Saha thinks Sancho “has to fight” to prove himself under Ten Hag.

“He has to fight, he has to give more and he knows that. He should be hurt by the criticism regarding his performances and despite having so much quality, maybe his main issue is overthinking what the opposition is going to do,” Saha told Betfred.

“Players like Jadon need arrogance to perform and show their quality and I’m still a huge supporter of him and it’s not fair to assume that he’s not going to start producing. He’s a brilliant player, but mentally he has to stop thinking so much. He needs to believe in his body, in his speed and in his team-mates.

“When your team-mates are either less creative or tired during a game, then you look to players such as Jadon to perform. Jadon needs to get back to the basics of his game, not overthink things and naturally things should begin to go in his favour.”
