Man Utd ‘could break piggy bank’ for £149m Bundesliga pair after ‘formal contract offer to Rabiot’
Manchester United could ‘break the piggy bank’ to land a pair of Bundesliga stars having made a ‘formal contract offer’ to Adrien Rabiot.
Erik ten Hag wanted Rabiot last summer when United agreed a fee in the region of £15million with Juventus.
But when John Murtough flew to Turin to meet the player’s mother, who acts as his representative, the Rabiots were demanding an eye-watering £240,000-a-week in wages.
United walked away and signed Casemiro instead, which worked out pretty well, but L’Equipe claimed earlier this week that United will try again this summer to sign Rabiot, who is out of contract at Juventus.
Given United would be signing the France international for nothing, the Rabiots may well now be wanting even more per week, but RMC Sport claim a ‘formal contract offer’ has been made.
Should United fail in their bid to land Rabiot, or even if they don’t given Ten Hag’s reported desire for multiple midfield recruits, Borussia Monchengladbach star Manu Kone is another player they’re keeping an eye on.
Fabrizio Romano claims Gladbach want “at least €50m (approx. £44m) with add-ons [on top]” for the 22-year-old, who operates predominatly in a defensive midfield role.
Romano named United among three clubs interested in the France U21 international: “It’s my understanding that three clubs at this moment are leading the race for Manu Kone. One, for sure, is Chelsea.
“They have many players in their list. We have to include Romeo Lavia, Declan Rice they are always monitoring, but we know Manu Kone is a player they are following. Chelsea will be there.
“Man Utd are following the player too, so Chelsea, United and PSG.”
And RMC Sport further claim that United are still interested in Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani, who has 22 goals and 15 assists for the German side this season, and impressed for France at the World Cup.
Kolo Muani ‘pleases Ten Hag very much and it would not be surprising to see the Red Devils go on the offensive to attach the services of the 24-year-old player’.
The report concludes: ‘United could indeed break the piggy bank to recover big French talents.’
