Man Utd: €50m deal for ‘monster’ is ‘not done’; three ‘factors’ could lead to heartbreak for Ten Hag

Man Utd want Min-Jae

According to reports, Man Utd are looking to sign Napoli star Kim Min-jae but this is ‘not a done deal yet’ and the transfer is dependent on three factors.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Min-jae throughout this season. He signed for Napoli last summer for around £15m from Fenerbache.

The South Korea international has been superb for the Italian outfit this season and he has arguably been one of the league’s best defenders.

Napoli have been a surprise package this term as they have won the Serie A title but they may lose a couple of players this summer.

Min-jae may secure himself a move to the Premier League when his €50m release clause becomes active in July.

Man Utd are in the market for a new centre-back as Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof may move elsewhere in the summer.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Min-Jae has been ‘keen to understand a range of moving pieces’ with three ‘factors’ set to determine whether he leaves Napoli.

‘This one is not a done deal yet, and Kim has been pretty vocal shouting down speculation of a Premier League move, albeit before Napoli won the Scudetto. I would term the transfer a realistic possibility. Spurs and Liverpool have looked at Kim as well,’ Jacobs wrote for Caught Offside.

‘Kim has been keen to understand a range of moving pieces. Firstly, what improved terms Napoli are prepared to offer him even though he only joined last summer from Fenerbahce.’

‘Next, and perhaps most crucially, an important factor will be whether Luciano Spalletti stays in Naples. There will be confirmation soon because Spalletti and Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis have already held talks over dinner to achieve clarity.

‘Kim also turns 27 in November and will want to ensure if he moves he’ll start regularly. That’s the only issue for Manchester United. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, if fit, could still be hard to displace. But Kim’s form is so strong that he’ll fancy his chances. He’s known as ‘The Monster’ for a reason.

Jacobs does also confirm that Man Utd are the ‘frontrunners’ in the race to sign Min-jae.

‘Kim has a release clause of €50m, but it’s only active between 1-15 July. That price is reasonable, albeit clubs will likely want to negotiate a different payment structure,’ Jacobs added.

‘Manchester United would love to move quickly and agree something before the clause is active to stop anyone else from triggering it. But as of now, nothing is done, even though it is probably fair to term Manchester United frontrunners.’
