Neville blames ‘classless’ Glazers for West Ham loss as Carragher replies with Ten Hag dig

Gary Neville has blasted Manchester United’s owners following their drab 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils once again struggled on the road as they fell to their second away defeat in four days.

David De Gea was to blame for the result after he failed to stop Said Benrahma’s tame first-half effort from outside the box.

This was another costly error made by the experienced Spaniard, and it is no surprise to see many fans and pundits calling for Erik ten Hag to sign a replacement in the summer.

However, United legend Neville has not pinned the blame on De Gea, Ten Hag, or any of the players on the pitch, but the Glazers.

It is safe to say Neville is not a big fan of the Glazer family – who first bought shares in the Premier League club in 2003 and have failed to endear themselves to the fan base during the 20 years they have been associated with the club.

United have been up for sale since November 2022. At the time, the Glazer family said they would “evaluate all options”.

It is believed that final bids have been made to buy the club as fans anxiously wait to see if their current owners will accept an offer from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim.

Neville did admit that United were rubbish against West Ham but did not hold back in his criticism of the Glazers – labeling them ‘weak’ and ‘the real disgrace’.

‘United so poor in this game,’ the former right-back wrote on Twitter. ‘ETH [Ten Hag] seeing more of the players in these situations is a positive. Allows him to sort out who he wants on the bus.

‘The real disgrace are the Glazers. Are they waiting for the last game at OT [Old Trafford] to pass??? It would be typical of them. Weak and shirking accountability and responsibility to the end!

‘Members of staff on and off the pitch are in an uncertain position waiting for new owners! Let alone recruitment and what budget their is going to be! This should have been done! Classless to the end!’

Amusingly, Neville’s Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher responded by criticising Ten Hag’s team selection and summer recruitment, hinting blaming the Glazers for the loss to West Ham is wrong.

‘Yeah the Glazers decided to play Weghorst as a 10, spend 90M on Antony & 70M on Casemiro (31) on a 5 yr deal!!’ Carragher wrote.

Neville responded: ‘Come on know your subject. They told ETH (when he needed a striker with CR7 [Cristiano Ronaldo] going) he couldn’t spend any money.

‘They sanctioned those other two deals after Brentford 4-0 to save their backsides as they were under pressure.

‘They sign the cheques and take responsibility for everything post SAF [Sir Alex Ferguson]! They’re a shambles!’
