Parlour praises Jesus

Ray Parlour has argued that Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City this summer gives them an advantage over their rivals Tottenham.

Both north London clubs have been busy in the transfer market this summer. Spurs have brought in the likes of Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s marquee signings so far are Jesus and Fabio Vieira. They are also set to bring in Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Tottenham for the title, Leicester will go down: how the first and last teams to make a signing fare

Jesus has performed well for Man City over the past few seasons. He was involved in 16 league goals last term as Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League title.

Arsenal ended up fifth in the table as they were two points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Parlour thinks Jesus is a “winner” and he needs to “bring that mentality” with him to Arsenal:

“If you look at Spurs, Son [Heung-min] and [Harry] Kane vs Nketiah – nothing against Eddie, he’s still a young lad, he’s still learning – and Lacazette. You put your money on probably Spurs to get over the line,” Parlour told Sky Sports.

“But Jesus, he’s a winner, he’s been in winning sides so he’s got to bring that mentality across to the team now.

“The togetherness in the team which I’ve seen, I’ve been around some very successful teams in my career and I know exactly when you’ve got a good team.

“I can see they’ve got a good team, there’s still a long way to go. There might still be another couple of signings to come as well. Looking from the outside now, it’s looking good.”

Elsewhere, according to reports, the ‘odds are increasing’ that Youri Tielemans will stay at Leicester City this summer even with Arsenal being ‘admirers’ of him.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in 2023 and he is rated at £30m this summer. It is known that Arsenal have expressed their interest in him.

The Athletic have now revealed that Arsenal are admirers of Tielemans but their interest has ‘not yet materialised into an offer’.

‘The odds are increasing’ that Tielemans will remain at Leicester City until the end of his contract. They add that Brendan Rodgers will ‘hold talks’ with the player this week.
