Gunners legend Ray Parlour thinks Arsenal should be looking to sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney during this summer’s transfer window.

The striker signed for Brentford in 2020 from Peterborough United for a fee that could rise to £15m.

He netted 33 goals last season as the Bees were promoted to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Toney has performed well for Brentford this term. He has grabbed twelve goals in the Premier League.

The Englishman was linked with Arsenal last year. They are set to target a couple of strikers this summer and they are already being linked with Man City’s Gabriel Jesus.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer and they are yet to commit their future to Arsenal.

Parlour does not think Arsenal will be in a “bidding war” if they decide to pursue Toney:

“The strikers they’ll be looking at, they’ll also be looking at the other clubs interested in those strikers,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“You don’t want to be getting into bidding wars. How many clubs will be after Toney, if he’s available?

“That’s the sort of striker I would be trying to get at Arsenal.”

Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand thinks Manchester City striker Jesus would be a good signing for Arsenal this summer.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein brought us a report on Friday that claimed the Gunners are favourites to sign Jesus in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal technical director Edu has apparently been in talks with the Brazilian’s representatives for months but no talks have taken place between the two clubs yet.

Ferdinand believes Jesus would score enough goals if he got a consistent run in the side at Arsenal while he reckons his team-mates appreciate how hard he works for the team.

“You speak to players about him, they appreciate him because he puts a good workload in, he has got quality,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel.

“I think if he plays consistently in a team like Arsenal, I think he gets you goals.

“By the way, [Eddie] Nketiah at the weekend [against Manchester United] I thought was brilliant. Held up the ball well, brought others into the game.”
