‘Still fragile’ Man Utd warned against superstar signing reported to be Sheikh Jassim’s ‘first action’

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has warned the Red Devils against a move for Paris Saint-Germain “superstar” Neymar, due to concerns over the “still fragile” team at Old Trafford.

A report last week claimed Sheikh Jassim – who’s vying with Sir Jim Ratcliffe to take the helm at United – wants the PSG forward to be the club’s ‘marquee signing this summer’ if his takeover bid is a success.

‘One of his first actions’ would be to sign Neymar – who would ‘signal the intentions of the new owners’.

It has been reported that PSG are willing to part ways with Neymar – has scored 18 and assisted 17 goals in 29 appearances this season – having bought him from Barcelona for a world-record £198million fee in the summer of 2017.

Neymar earns a reported £616,000 per week and has come under scrutiny for his poor attitude and work ethic in his time with the Ligue 1 giants.

Obviously a world-class footballer who is arguably the third best of this generation behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Neymar would make any team better, but is he worth the money and baggage?

Saha doesn’t want to see him join United due to his “exaggerated media attention” and the effect that could have on the “still fragile” squad under Erik ten Hag.

Saha told Betfred: “It would be great for the Premier League to have Neymar playing in England because he’s such a terrific player.

“He’s very entertaining to watch but I can understand the question marks that can come from having a player like Neymar at your club.

“I’m just a big fan of the player on the pitch but I don’t believe he’s lived up to expectations in his last three or four seasons with PSG.

“I wouldn’t want to see him in a Manchester United shirt considering the exaggerated media attention a superstar like him would attract.

“The team structure is so important and still fragile at times. But I certainly believe he’d be a great addition to the Premier League.”
