Transfer gossip: Liverpool target England man as Bellingham alternative as Brozovic linked

Liverpool told to sing Phillips

Liverpool are being linked with Kalvin Phillips and Marcelo Brozovic, who is also a Newcastle target in a £150m summer spend.

LIVERPOOL TURN TO PHILLIPS?
The fact that this story comes from Leeds fan Jeremy Cross in the Daily Star suggests that the information might have come from Kalvin Phillips’ camp so take it with a pinch of salt as it might be the most wishful of thinking but he claims that Liverpool are showing interest in Manchester City flop Phillips for a cut-price £35m.

Phillips joined City last summer for £50m but has barely played and been publicly criticised by boss Pep Guardiola. It is said that he is ‘open’ to joining Liverpool because, well, presumably the alternatives are in the West Ham mould. Liverpool are said to have turned to Phillips because Jude Bellingham has been deemed too expensive.

Meanwhile, Football Insider claim that Liverpool still believe that they are leading the race for Mason Mount despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

NEWCASTLE TO SPEND £150M ON TIERNEY AND CO
Kieran Tierney looks set to leave Arsenal this summer and The Sun repeat the rumour that he is a target for Newcastle as part of a £150m spend to prepare them for the Champions League next season.  Newcastle are also said to be targeting a defensive midfielder to push Bruno Guimaraes further forward and a winger. One name mentioned in the latter position is Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.

In terms of the defensive midfielder, a separate report from Croatia says that Newcastle (as well as Liverpool) are targeting Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, who would cost £31m of that £150m. He has helped the Italian club into the Champions League semi-finals this season so definitely has the requisite experience at that level.

MAN UTD TARGET OSIMHEN RESISTS PARIS
The agents of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen are close to agreeing a deal with PSG but the player himself is not on board, according to Foot Mercato. He has already played in France and is in no rush to go back.

He would prefer to join a Premier League club – with Manchester United and Chelsea both strongly linked – and would welcome interest from Bayern Munich (who are unlikely to pay his £100m-plus fee), with PSG his least-preferred option.
