Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that the current Man Utd owners have not held talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.

A report in L’Equipe on Monday insisted that ‘talks with Manchester United have started’ as the Red Devils look to sign the Brazil international this summer.

The French publication insists that his compatriot Casemiro is urging Neymar to join him at Old Trafford with the Man Utd midfielder enjoying life in Manchester.

But Romano has now claimed that Man Utd are not currently in “negotiations” for Neymar with the current regime not interested in pursuing a deal for the PSG forward.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “There are no negotiations ongoing between Manchester United and PSG for Neymar as of now. Nothing concrete, no talks… at least with current owners/board. PSG already discussed Neymar’s exit internally, and are looking for a solution this summer.

“United strongly deny the rumours, they insist this is not true. This is the position of the current board, but they are in a sale process, so we’ll see what happens when it’s resolved – Neymar could be a target for new owners, but at the moment there is nothing concrete.

“There have been contacts as Manchester United are interested again in Adrien Rabiot. There is no official bid, and Juventus have also made Rabiot a proposal over a new contract, so the player will decide his future soon. United appreciate the player, though, with Erik ten Hag a big fan since also trying to sign him last summer.”

There has also been reports of interest from Newcastle but Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio explains why a move to Tyneside is also extremely unlikely.

Di Marzio told Les Transferts: “I don’t know where he’d go, but I know that he’s on their ‘exit list’, like a lot of other players at PSG.

“They want to do a revolution of the squad. They want to get young players and let some of the big names leave. Not Mbappé, but Neymar is on the list.”

On reports that Newcastle are also interested in Neymar’s services, Di Marzio added: “It’s difficult to place Neymar at any club because of his salary. He won’t accept any destination.

“I don’t know if Neymar would accept Newcastle, because he wants to play in big cities at top clubs. It’s not easy for him to find another big club.

“The certain thing is that PSG would be open to letting him go. Where to, I don’t know at the moment.”

Di Marzio continued: “These kinds of players want to live in a big town, where they have the possibility to go out, to have a beautiful house and have friends in their house. So it’s normal that he would want to stay in a beautiful city.

“That’s why it’s difficult for him to maybe accept Newcastle or towns and clubs that are not ‘top’.

“Even the salary makes it difficult. I think it’s really difficult for him to accept Newcastle.”
